Landon + Lili | Foggy Winter NC Proposal

A sweet surprise for Lili on this foggy Highlands hike. Landon and Lili traveled all the way up to the mountains from Florida. These two had known each other since high school and reconnected after college when they were living in the same area again. With most of the proposals I shoot, we plan enough in advance that it goes on without a hitch. That was not quite the case with this one… The fog disrupted our plans just a bit, so here’s a little storytime about how this wonderfully, foggy proposal went down.

Landon had planned on proposing with the gorgeous mountain backdrop that Satulah Mountain offers but unfortunately Highlands had other plans and brought thick fog. Landon and I had it all planned out, that I was going to be up there ‘taking photos of the view’ and happen to capture him getting down on one knee.

Since it was thick fog when I got there 15 mins before them, I texted Landon that I was just going to hide in the bushes instead of pretending to photograph the nonexistent view. Funnily enough, he did not get the text. Cell service in the mountains can be hard to come by. So there I was hiding in the bushes directed toward where we had planned for him to pop the question. I hear them coming so I make sure my camera is ready. They continue up and walk right past me down to another overlook where we hadn’t planned for him to go… I awkwardly say my usual ‘hey, how’s it going’ as I say to others on a hike and continue to tell them I was just waiting for the fog to clear to take some photos so it didn’t seem like I was just being a weirdo in the bushes (I’m sure it still did to them).

So they continue down the trail and I decided it’s probably best to follow them because he will most likely propose at the next little overlook. He did not… They ended up turning around and completely caught me following them! I was so completely embarrassed but knew it would be okay once she knew the reason behind all of this. So I followed them back and finally, he got down on one knee and all was well. We definitely had a good laugh about it all!

We continued with a mini session after and it was a cute giddy, champagne-popping time, exploring the mountaintop as much as we could with the fog. Landon and Lili definitely have a great story to tell about their engagement in Highlands!

Tori + Michael - Cashiers Engagement Session

Wow. Tori and Michael are the sweetest. They showed up, first time meeting them and automatically felt like old friends. They were so comfortable in front of the camera, I hardly had to tell my bad jokes to get them to loosen up. We explored all around Lake Fairfield and Silver Run Falls and just had a blast. It was the perfect mountain engagement session, with waterfalls, rock balds and grassy fields to dance around in.

Their wedding is coming up in May in this exact spot is going to be incredible. Not only is this one of my favorite spots on the planet (I grew up spending 90% of the summer at Lake Fairfield swimming, learning to sail, hiking and just having fun), it is the perfect spot for a wedding. Tori and Michael are planning a big bash for this grassy hill with a view and I already know it is going to be a wonderful day.

Ian + Jeanette - Linville Gorge couple session

Ian and Jeanette are some of my good friends. I was there when they first got their sweet, sweet pup, Wrangler (he is seriously the best and so adorable). And now they have another adorable little puppy Phoenix, so we obviously need to shoot again soon...

Anyways, I had the best time up in one of my favorite places, the Linville Gorge. This is the perfect spot to rock hop around the mountains while the sun is setting just on the other side of the gorge. There have been countless times I have camped/hiked out in the Chimneys and there is always something that takes my breath away. One time there were clouds rolling in and out of the valley and it was INCREDIBLE!

Anyways, please check out this sweet little family (especially Wrangler) and keep a lookout for their engagement shoot coming soon with their new pup!
